PRONUNCIATION:
(BON* vee-VUHR)
[* this syllable is nasal]

MEANING:
noun: A person who enjoys good food, drinks, luxuries, etc.

ETYMOLOGY:
A pseudo-French formation, from bon (good) + viveur (a living person), from vivre (to live). A synonym is bon vivant. Earliest documented use: 1865.

USAGE:
“If Lebanon was a man or woman, I’d picture someone very stylish, enjoying a song and dance, while eating tabbouleh and holding up a glass of something merry-looking in their hand; a bon viveur trying to make the most of their evening before the electricity is cut off.”
