PRONUNCIATION:
MEANING:
adjective: Marshy; flabby; spongy.
ETYMOLOGY:
From quag (marsh), of unknown origin. Earliest documented use: 1596.
USAGE:
“The grass, which rose taller and taller until it was waist-high, hobbled
the men’s feet as they ran, and the spongy, quaggy ground brimmed with water.” Wojciech Zukrowski (Translation: Stephanie Kraft); Stone Tablets; Paul Dry Books; 2016. See more usage examples of quaggy in Vocabulary.com’s dictionary. A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the
spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that
spectrum -- even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That
gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the
time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits
put on the range of the debate. -Noam Chomsky, linguistics professor and
political activist (b. 7 Dec 1928)
