From Latin, from Greek symphysis (growing together), from syn- (with) +
phyein (to grow). Earliest documented use: 1578.
NOTES:
The word is often used in anatomy to describe the fusion of two bones,
cartilages, etc. It is also used for the line or junction thus formed.
