MEANING:
Approximately.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin circa (around, about), from circus (circle), from Greek kirkos. Ultimately from the Indo-European root sker- (to turn or bend) which is also the source of other words such as ranch, rank, shrink, circle, crisp, search, ring, curb, ridge, and curve.

USAGE:
"This translates into an annual average loss of circa 167 hectares (0.5 per cent of all farmland)."
