MEANING:
noun:
1. A light reddish-brown color.
2. A horse of this color.
3. Any of various plants of the genus Rumex having a sharp taste, used as salad greens.
4. Any of various plants of the genus Oxalis having a sour taste.

ETYMOLOGY:
For 1, 2: From Old French sorel, from sor (yellowish brown).
For 3, 4: From Old French surele, from sur (sour).

USAGE:
"The horse, a sorrel color male temporarily named Wildfire, is small and might make a good pasture companion for another horse."
